"M" Family Preview

You may recognize this crew... a new addition to the family at the bottom! :-)
More pics to come later of the kiddos to see if we can catch more of their personalities!
My friend is awesome...she does hair, makeup, works, and helps me as a second photographer and editor...life without friends = lame!!! (good thing I don't have to worry about that)

What to wear and where to go...

Part 1

Fall is coming around and lots of families update their family portraits at this time of year.  The scenery is beautiful and lets face it, fall clothes are fun for accessories!!  When you are looking at what you want for your pictures, there are a few things to think about and I hope this can help you have a stress free, well less stressful, time picking out what to wear!

DO’s:
Coordinate
Pick 2-3 base colors
Accessorize to add some color pop
Be the center of your photo, it is all about you
Pick colors to compliment your skin tone
Wear something you love, or that makes you who you are (like if your son will never take off his cowboy boots...let him wear them)
Start with one person’s outfit and go from there, you can make small changes as you go
See what you have in your closet before you go out and buy new clothes
If you want to match something in particular, take that to the store so there’s no guessing game
Pay attention to your shoes and your socks…can’t stress this enough, remember your feet are usually in the picture too
Wash & iron new clothes to get rid of the store fold lines

DON’Ts:
Match completely; you loose individuals if you see a sea of the same color
Use a lot of strong patterns; ie. plaids, stripes (remember a little can be good)
Wear colors that wash you out, such as white
Wear uncomfortable clothes that will make your kids crazy
Go out and buy ALL new clothes
Wear white socks, they stick out like crazy

With those things being put out there, it can be fun to get clothes together.  If you can, allow your kids to have a decision in what they are wearing.  When I say this, I mean pick a few things out and give them a choice between A and B, otherwise Spiderman or their favorite princess might be the choice and there’s a battle!  This can also be fun for their pictures because it is who they are and they change as fast as you blink!   This also gives you a chance to catch it in a way you can display their little or big personalities!  Bring it along and we can take a few pictures in their choice.  I always bargain, if you wear this…you can change into that when we are done and get a few pictures!
If you have something in mind that you want, see what you have in your closet first, you don’t need to drain the account for your picture.  Remember you want to coordinate, not completely match!
If you go online and search “what to wear for pictures”, you can find lots of visual examples under images.  In the paint section at most local hardware/paint stores you can find samples of coordinating colors for your home.  If you're in a rut these can give you something to start from when choosing your color palette…and are free!!  You never know what you might find.  Most of all have fun and be yourself!  If you can’t decide between a few things, bring them all and I can help you decide, or we can do wardrobe change and use it all!
